In India, the prevalence of cancer is on the rise at a significant pace. Hence, there is a crucial need to enhance cancer awareness and knowledge among the population.
Cancer Awareness
Increasing cancer awareness in more deprived areas could help to reduce health inequalities and improve cancer outcomes. Having cancer awareness will give you the confidence to speak to a doctor if something doesn’t feel normal to you, as spotting cancer early increases the chance of survival.
The campaign is to create cancer awareness amongst the population of India. It is important to inform them about the signs and symptoms, and importance of screening for early detection. It is also vital to follow a healthy lifestyle, and sharing of survivor stories gives a message of hope and confidence.
Raise awareness through campaigning by encouraging others to share the symptoms on social media and in your community. As well as lobbying for a national awareness campaign, we work to get our awareness materials out into local communities, schools, GP practices and pharmacies.
Cancer Detection
We know that early detection can be extremely beneficial. Cancer screening helps find cancer early before you have symptoms when it is easier to treat. Cancer screening helps find cancer before it spreads when it is easier to treat. Early detection may mean less treatment and less time spent recovering.
The earlier a cancer is detected, the better your chance of survival. Finding some cancers at an early stage (before symptoms appear) may help decrease the chance of dying from those cancers. Screening studies are done to see whether deaths from cancer decrease when people are screened. Certain factors may cause survival times to look like they are getting better when they are not Early diagnosis of cancer focuses on detecting symptomatic patients as early as possible so they have the best chance for successful treatment.
When cancer care is delayed or inaccessible there is a lower chance of survival, greater problems associated with treatment and higher costs of care. In some situations, early detection of certain illnesses and diseases can be extremely beneficial. It allows doctors to come up with an effective treatment plan that can prevent the progression of the disease, or at least manage it effectively. It also helps patients prepare themselves mentally and financially.
Support
We believe that support is key part in cancer patient journey. Cancer survivors with strong emotional support tend to adjust better to the changes cancer brings, have a more positive outlook, and often report a better quality of life.
Research has shown that people with cancer need support from friends. Having a support system in place benefits cancer patients in multiple ways. For one, being supported by family and friends may help a cancer patient feel less socially isolated, which can be a health hazard in and of itself.
Social support has shown to significantly impact on psychological distress, quality of life, loneliness, burden of care, as well as anxiety, depression, hope, meaning, self-transcendence, and mortality risk.
Survivorship
We are aware that poor physical and mental health is experienced by 4% of adults without cancer and 7% of cancer survivors. Compared with those who have not had cancer, cancer survivors are more likely to experience poor physical and/or mental health. Working-age cancer survivors often face challenges in maintaining employment.
Cancer survivorship helps people learn to live with those life changes. By emphasizing health and wellness from diagnosis through end-of-life, cancer survivorship helps people with cancer preserve a good quality of life. Your healthcare providers understand how cancer can change your life.
A survivorship care plan includes important information about your cancer and treatment, which helps you and your doctors understand each other. Bring it with you whenever you go to the doctor. Your plan should say when you need to get follow-up tests, and which doctors are responsible for your care.
